The new Global Reporting Format (GRF) methodology for assessing and reporting runway surface conditions applies as of August 12, 2021 in the European Union.

Compliance with the GRF methodology will enable a smooth transition to the new requirements, especially for Member States in Northern Europe, where the compliance date of August 12, 2021 will enable a switch to the new reporting system before the start of the winter season.

The new GRF methodology ensures a single and globally harmonised way of assessing and reporting runway surface conditions and correspondingly improves flight crew assessment of take-off and landing performance. This will reduce the safety risks related to runway excursions, the most common form of runway safety related incidents.
